Wootton Tri

Wootton Tri is a friendly triathlon club, that enjoys training hard and socialising, located in the county of Northamptonshire. We welcome all abilities of triathlete and budding triathletes.

Athletes often come from other sports, such as running, due to injury or just for some cross training. It can take some time before people actually compete in a triathlon. It takes time to be confident on a bike and to develop correct swimming technique, and can be daunting to put it all together in a race. Wootton Tri is part of Wootton Road Runners and you can be sure to be encouraged and supported into triathlon, no matter what your background.

Our club philosophy is to promote the fair participation in triathlon and provide an encouraging and supportive environment for all to participate in the sport.

WRR History

Wootton Road Runners began informally in January 1985 when four like minded people began running on a Thursday night from the Wootton Working Mens Club (WWMC) venue. These four who became the founder members of our club were Bill Green, Stuart Hearson, Steve Edwards and Alan Richardson.

In March 1987 the club became affiliated to the Midland Counties Amateur Athletic Association. The numbers of runners started to increase and it made changing in the Artistes dressing room behind the stage at the WWMC a very interesting and friendly affair. As numbers continued to grow changing wasmoved to the committee room until it was decided that this could no longer cope and the club moved its training base to the recreation ground and associated changing facilities in Wootton village. It was this move that led to a rapid rise in female runners. In 1999 we had again outgrown our changing facilities and we accepted an offer to move to the newly opened Whitewater Nene Centre. But early in 2000 we again moved, due to increased numbers, to Image & Fitness Centre in Brackmills. Membership continued it's upward spiral.

In the autumn of 2003 we moved back to our home village of Wootton and into the new Wootton Fields social and sports community centre, where we currently run from. Our membership is currently now in excess of 270 with a ratio of 60:40 male:female. All abilities from beginners to experienced and competent runners arevery welcome! The main feature of our Thursday training night, apart from the running, is to catch up over a drink with fellow members in the community centre bar and carbo-load on the popular range of snacks/ meals. Additionally some members like to return to our spiritual roots at the WWMC which has a fine range of Real Ales for real runners and a nice friendly atmosphere.
