Wootton Ladies storm to success

Wootton Road Runners were celebrating success on Saturday as their ladies stormed to success in the Northants County Cross Country Championship to take the Ladies County Team title. Despite the recent floods the event took place at Abington Park.

In the Ladies race with a field of 42 runners, Imogen Norton took a superb 3rd place, behind International star Sian Edwards and Birchfield's, Nicole Roberts. Imogen was well supported by Julie Dixon in 6th place and Vicky Ayliff in 9th, Jasmine Lowdon, Nicola Wood and Terri Mason. Imogen, Julie and Vicky comfortably took the Team Title with 19 points from Rugby & Northampton who came 2nd with 28 points. Wootton also took 4th place in the team competition too. The team performance was particularly rewarding as Wootton took the title from local rivals Rugby & Northampton after them winning for 3 consecutive years.

A combination of injury, illness and clashing commitments meant Wootton were unable to enter a Male team. However, James Armstrong ran his usual gutsy race to finish 32nd in a very strong field, with Steve Heighway a creditable 37th.
